2019 My Louisiana Equality & Equity Summit Will Be Held On Oct. 3-5 In Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge, La.  – The 2019 My Louisiana Equality and Equity Summit, hosted by the Louisiana-based nonprofit The Justice Alliance, is set to kick off in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 3-5, 2019.  With over 60 leading activists, social justice advocates, nonprofit leaders, and lawmakers from across the state coming together to discuss issues like the criminal justice system in Louisiana, creating education equity in the public school system, and equitable access to quality healthcare, the My Louisiana Summit seeks to identify systemic barriers to equality and equity in Louisiana while facilitating an environment for coalition-building and collaboration to address them.

“As we enter our second year of organizing the My Louisiana Summit, we are extremely excited about the level of participation by organizations and activists across the state and the quality of the information they’re prepared to share,” said Quentin Anthony Anderson, Executive Chairman of The Justice Alliance who served as the chair of the inaugural My Louisiana Summit last year. “The whole purpose of the My Louisiana Summit is to equip grassroots activists and leaders with the kindling necessary to ignite their passion to change the world around them. This year’s slate of Summit sessions is indicative of that aim.”

The Summit promises to be comprehensive in its subject matter, with sessions covering a range of topics, including criminal justice reform, economic equity, gender equality, LGBTQ rights, environmental & climate justice, juvenile justice, and the art of community organizing. Among the confirmed participants at this year’s Summit include the Louisiana Association of United Ways, The Bail Project, the Louisiana Budget Project, Americans for Prosperity Foundation, the Vera Institute of Justice, the Promise of Justice Initiative, the Innocence Project of New Orleans, and the Southern Poverty Law Center, among others.

“The Louisiana Association of United Ways is honored to be a part of this year’s Summit with so many thought leaders from throughout our state,” said Sarah Berthelot, President and CEO of Louisiana Association of United Ways.  “I believe attendees will have an opportunity to expand knowledge about the critical issues of equality and equity and walk away with more tools to activate positive change in our communities.”

General registration to attend the 2019 My Louisiana Equality & Equity Summit is currently open and free of charge. To learn about the Summit or to register, prospective attendees can visit MyLouisianaSummit.org.
