The Justice Alliance Announces Inaugural My Louisiana Equality & Equity Summit

Baton Rouge, La. – The Justice Alliance, a Baton Rouge-based 501(c)4 social justice nonprofit organization, is hosting their inaugural My Louisiana Equality and Equity Summit on June 8-10, 2018 at the Main Library on Goodwood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The theme of this year’s Summit is “We Are the Change We’ve Been Waiting For.” The My Louisiana Summit seeks to identify and elevate systemic barriers to equality and equity in Louisiana while facilitating an environment for coalition-building and strategic planning to address them.

“As an organization, we think it’s essential to who we are and our mission to convene the types of powerful conversations that we’re anticipating having at the Summit,” said Quentin Anthony Anderson, President of The Justice Alliance and Chair of this year’s My Louisiana Summit. “We hope the My Louisiana Summit can eventually evolve into an annual catalyst for campaigns for social change in Louisiana.”

The Summit promises to be holistic in tone, with sessions covering a range of topics from a statewide perspective. Confirmed Summit session topics include criminal justice reform, pay equity, LGBTQ rights, education, environmental justice, and access to healthcare. Confirmed speakers include Dr. Shanta Proctor of Governor John Bel Edwards’ Office of Women’s Policy Jan Moller of the Louisiana Budget Project, Gary Chambers of The Rouge Collection, Baton Rouge author and activist Donney Rose, Vivian Broussard Guillory of the American Association of University Women, and Flozell Daniels of the Foundation for Louisiana.

Along with the moderated panel discussions that will dominate the event, the My Louisiana Summit will also feature an exhibition area where nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and B-Corporations from across the state will have the opportunity to engage with Summit attendees, speakers, and participants. In addition, The Justice Alliance will be hosting its inaugural Promise & Audacity Celebration Luncheon during the Summit, on Saturday, June 9, where they will highlight and honor the efforts of organizations and individuals across the state of Louisiana who have accomplished notable achievements in their fight for social equality and equity in Louisiana.

General registration to attend the Summit is currently open and free of charge. All are welcome to attend. To learn about the Summit or to register, prospective attendees can visit www.MyLouisianaSummit.org.
